Detox for health Always thinking about doing a detox but never have the time. I finally went on a 7 night detox in beautiful surroundings with sunshine and no temptation of bread or alcohol. I went to the detox retreat of Amchara on the very chilled out Island of Gozo (Malta). Within 2 hours of arriving I had my first juice and had my entry consultation with the Naturopath. I decided to go in slowly with 3 smoothies a day and 1 evening soup for the first 3 days! Then hardcore for the last 3 with juices and and broth for evening with super food shots of aloe, turmeric and reishi mushroom as an optional extra. On my last day I was introduced to solid food from the wonderful raw food chefs. I was waiting for detox reactions ie headaches, maybe a rash but nothing really happened; but that's probably because I have no more than 1 cup of tea a day and an occasional glass of wine when at home. I got stuck into the morning and evening yoga/meditation and also did a couple of circuit classes for detox and a back care class by a local physiotherapist. Topped with daily leisurely walks to get a real feel for the island and daily infra red sessions to aid the detox.
So after 7 days and back at work how did I feel? Much fitter and more relaxed and asking why did I not do it sooner.
If you are looking for some serious me time with no temptations this could be a great option for your to do list of 2019!
The concern people may have is will you feel hungry. I love my food and rarely miss a meal but only had occasional mild feelings of hunger which wore off quickly. I also lost 2kg and back to normal with eating regular meals which you need to introduce slowly in the first week back.
Once you are fasting fully with juicing and broths your body can go into repair mode, reducing inflammation and if you have an auto immune condition such as ulcerative colitis or psoriasis it may be the kick start your body needs to repair itself. With motivation to keep off inflammatory foods such as sugar, dairy, red meat, processed foods alcohol long term. Fasting in the short term may also encourage your body to move from fat storing to fat burning mode!
